Construction information
The 2024 Street and Utility Project is a major reconstruction project that will impact the community.
The City of Medicine Lake is working with contractors to minimize those impacts during construction. The watermain and road will be reconstructed in stages to further reduce impacts.
We appreciate your cooperation to minimize external traffic and large gatherings to allow the contractor to expedite construction.
Construction Updates
All construction activities are paused until Spring 2025.
The contractor completed all the required construction obligations by the 2024 contract completion date of November 30, 2024, with the exception of paving the trail through Memorial Park. In light of this, the contractor agreed to plow the gravel trail all winter.
In the spring, the contractor will return to complete construction. The final completion date per contract is June 30. 2025
The remaining work consists of the following items:
Topsoil and seeding all disturbed areas
All “punch list” repair items. There is a fairly extensive list of repairs that need to be fixed in the spring, many of which are located on private property. Once those are completed, we hope to confirm the repairs are satisfactory to each property owner
Landscaping and irrigation in Memorial Park
Pave the Memorial Park trail
Raised crosswalks
Final signage
Final lift of asphalt (This is typically the last thing done once all the other work is completed. Includes speed bumps. In Minnesota, asphalt plants typically do not open until mid-May, but this is entirely weather dependent.
Final pavement striping after the pavement is completed.

Important Notes for Residents:
Impacts to mailboxes and deliveries
Some private property mailboxes near the street will be removed during roadway reconstruction. Mailboxes removed will be stored, and reinstalled after construction is complete.
Mail service to all properties will be stopped during roadway reconstruction to prevent mail vehicles driving through the construction zone.
Temporary mailboxes will be set up at City Hall. Property owners may want to consider sending their packages to a different location during this period, such as place of employment.
Access to driveways
Contractors are required to provide access to properties during construction. Please note that certain operations may temporarily prevent access to driveways for a short duration (less than 24-hours). Property owners will be notified in advance of temporary access restrictions.
Street parking will be removed
Street parking will not be allowed during construction.
General safety
Please obey all construction signs, speed limits, flag persons, etc. and use caution as you drive near construction areas to keep everyone safe.
Please keep children away from all construction areas and equipment to minimize any safety issues.
Driveways, landscaping, and irrigation systems
Driveways, landscaping and yards will be disturbed as part of the project. The project contractor will replace and restore your property. Please note that new driveway pavement will not look the same as old, weather driveways.
Irrigation systems along the edges of the road will be disrupted. You may want to contact your irrigation contractor ahead of time to shut down that zone and move the lines and heads off the public right-of-way.
